News article about Braden from MO. He went from 20/400 to 20/100 in his good eye, and has more than light perception in his left (and had near nothing to start!)

Hi everyone,
My son Ty has ONH and we were in Qingdao China from 5-7-09 to 6-4-09 He had a total of 7 SCT's done and he just had his 3 mo f/u appt. I just thought you all would like to know what progress he's had and what the Dr. said.
I am so happy with the information that was given to us from Ty's eye Dr. The Dr. did a couple different vision tests. The first one was where Ty had to read the screen from a distance and he was able to read the big" E" from about 8ft. Then the Dr. put another letter up that was the next size smaller and told Ty to walk forward until he could read it. He was able to read it from 4ft. (which he could not do before the stem cells) Then the Dr. did a test to check his field of vision. He asked Ty to tell him how many fingers he was holding up, which he got right every time. Then he told Ty not to move his head and held his fingers up from the sides, and then up, and down. Ty got it right every time. I guess this was testing his field of vision and the Dr said he could not do this before the SCT. That he could only see the fingers right in front of him, not from the sides or up or down. I was so pleased with just that! Then we went into another room to re-take the optic photos to see a before and after. I really wasn't expecting much since this was only the 3 mo f/u. He did his right eye first and I don't understand completely how this works but I guess its measured in pixels then he calculates a % from there... So the optic nerve in the right eye had increased in size by 15%.. I was amazed at that and instantly got happy tears, as did Ty... Then when he was comparing the left eye before and after he was silent and kind of shook his head. I asked him is it good, and he said "wow" it looks like it has increased in size by 40% The Dr. and I were so excited and Ty was too! The doc also said just looking at the after photos the nerve looks so much more pink and healthy, like there was a lot going on. Ty and I both left there with happy tears rolling down our face. Another thing I and people that know Ty have noticed is his eyes don't wander as much. He is able to keep them still and focus a lot more on things. The way Ty puts it is that everything looks more zoomed in. I think I am still in shock at this point, just because we made it this far and have these results. I can't tell you how long I have prayed for something to help Ty see. Now I just feel like my prayers are coming true! Thank you god, you are amazing and I feel like this is a true miracle!
Thank you to everyone who helped us get to this point, we are FOREVER grateful..
Love,
Jenn & Ty

Underwent treatment in 2007...
Here is a short blog from his grandma:
"One thing that most doctors will agree on, is the fact that stem cells will help the SOD factors in these children. My grandson's endocrinologist told us before we took Cameron to Hangzhou, China for SCT. that he didn't believe SCT could help improve Cameron's eyesight. But he agreed that SC should grately improve Cameron's general health. Cameron's Endocrinologist at All Children's in St. Petersburg, FL wanted to make sure we understood that scientificly speaking the healthy stem cells from healthy blood would help the pituitary and thyroid which (the pituitary controls the amount of growth & the thyroid, while the thyroid controls the entire body)If you can improve the health of the pituitary & the thyroid you have made huge progress. This is what the healthy stem cell did for Cameron. Cameron's endocrin system has improved a lot. Cameron was so small and frail, he couldn't have walked even if he'd known how because his legs where so thin and small. The fact is I am not sure if Cameron would be here with us today, because Cameron was in and out of the emergency room at All Children's Hospital at least once a month, sometimes three times a month because his endocrin problems were so bad. -We live a two hour drive from St. Pete, FL, unfortunately that is the only hospital that can handle pediatric endocrin children like Cameron when they have a crisis.- of course we also prayed that Cameron would gain sight from the SCT.
Well Cameron can SEE and his general health has improved. Cameron weighs considerably more than before SCT. Cameron now eats soft foods, he even holds his spoon, He is now walking all by himself and did I mention he can SEE, he can find his toys all by himself. He can SEE the toy his one year old sister is playing with and go take it away from her. If you ask my son or my daughter-in-law if they believe SCT helped Cameron, they will say Yes! If you ask my son or my daughter-in-law if they would send Cameron for another round of SCT, they would also say Yes in a heart beat, if and when they have the money!
But I have also personally seen improvements in other children with these same issues that have had SCT's. I will end this chapter now!
God Bless! Carol carolptrsn@msn.com"

Here is a blog from Rylee's mom, Shayla Lovett:
"So here is a little update for you guys on Rylee (I really need to update her blog, where to find time)....so she went to a low vision specialist last week. This same Dr had seen her last may (2 months post china) and he had her at 20/1400+. At that time he doubted that China made any change in her vision. She was sitting in the chair and at that time could not even see the letter chart which was 10 feet way. When she went last week he had her at 20/360, and could not believe it was the same child visually. From the same chair, in the same room, with the same eye chart, she read all the way until the letters were about 3 inches tall (still 10 feet way). It was really shocking to see such a large change. With magnifiers he also had her reading fine print.
Just thought some of you may want to hear.
In case some of you do not know us, Rylee is now 7 (hard to believe but she will be 8 on 4-28-09) She went to China for treatment Jan - Feb of 2008 for ONH."
